Donna ISD CTE
-
How CTE benefits you?
- Higher Graduation Rate- data shows that students who are given a chance to start working toward their career goals and given real-life applications to traditional courses, students are more motivated to succeed.
- Teaching in-demand soft skills- “soft skills” such as attention to detail and critical thinking are the most in-demand skills in today’s job market. Because CTE students are taught these competencies as they prepare for the workforce, they will have an advantage.
- Hand-On learning- CTE students do an abundance of hands-on learning with real-life applications in traditional math and science classes and are higher than likely to do better in research and critical thinking development than their non-CTE counterparts.
- Increase Career Exploration- Too many students graduate without knowing what they want to do. But at its root, CTE is career-focused. This practice of getting these youth to think about their future proves to be beneficial for all students.
-
Why Join CTE?
- CTE addresses the needs of high-growth industries and helps close the skills gap.
- Half of all STEM jobs call for workers with less than a bachelor’s degree.
- Health care occupations are projected to grow 18 percent by 2026, adding more than 2 million new jobs.
- 3 million workers will be needed for the nation’s infrastructure in the next decade, including designing, building, and operating transportation, housing, utilities, and telecommunications.
- Almost half of the energy workforce may need to be replaced by 2024, and demand for solar and wind energy technicians will double.
- More than 80 percent of manufacturers report that talent shortages will impact their ability to meet customer demand.
-
What can CTE do for you?
- Assist students to gain entry-level employment in an in-demand, high-skill, high-wage, job and/or to continue their education with a goal of student self-sufficiency.
- Link CTE from elementary levels to postsecondary levels.
- Collaborate with a CTE advisory industry council that provides support to Donna’s CTE programs that are aligned to 21st century targeted occupations.
- Provide support for local education and business partnerships, including work-related and job shadowing experiences that are related to CTE programs.
- Recognize CTE student and staff achievements and CTE community partners and advisory council members
